Uncle "Will-Man"

Uncle William visited from New York as well as stood as godfather for Grace during her Baptism. For a bachelor, he slipped right on in to our chaotic kid filled days with ease. He embraced Davis' love for firetrucks as seen below and dealt with the roller coaster emotions of a 3 year old. Uncle "will-man" is actually bigger than Andrew and both of children looked so small when in his arms, although I believe Davis will have a similar stature one day. While Davis enjoyed playing trains and firetrucks, Andrew and I enjoyed hearing stories of the happenings of a single thirty-something in New York. It was a dear visit and we are grateful for his long travels to meet his goddaughter and be with us.

First Day of Preschool

I can not believe my firstborn has started preschool. We enrolled Davis in the 3 year old program at Pinnacle Peak Presbyterian Preschool just five minutes north of home. Its a Reggio Emilio program and highly respected here in the Valley. He is in the Javelina class, one of the four 3 year old classes, with children whose birthdays are within the same 6 months. I find the name Javelina ironic considering I have advised him to run at any sighting of a Javelina. Bobcat class may have been more appropriate considering the number of sightings we've had in our backyard - three just last week.  Davis attends Tuesday and Thursday from 9-12 with an extended day on Tuesday for Spanish class. He gets to bring his lunch on Tuesday - very big deal for him. I will miss him, especially on those long days, but know he will love the socialization and constant activity. Too, this will allow me some treasured one on one time with my sweet Grace.

We have been talking about preschool all summer long and especially the week building up to it. Stressing the "drop off" portion of it specifically and how its only for kids not mamas. I was happy Andrew was able to go into work late which allowed Davis to ride with him. Yolanda stayed with Grace and I met them at the school. We walked him in, did our routine with me telling him I was going to the grocery and kiss and goodbye it was. I did the goodbye quickly for both of us as I could feel myself getting emotional. He didn't flinch and kept on playing amidst the chaos of parents and of course, tear filled children. I breathed a sigh of relief when getting in the car. We did it. I'm excited for the family and the new adventures school will bring and mostly seeing our little man grow and learn.

Summer in California

A belated post on our wonderful stay in California, at my parents, for our summer escape. We arrived in SLO one day after our return from Montana. The turn around wasn't as bad as I thought and the flight by myself was quite easy. My parents are saints for opening their doors for such as long time to such needy houseguests. They also hosted others during our stay but I think the kids and I kept them the busiest. We enjoyed walks in the neighborhood to the park, trips to the beach where Davis grew in his overall comfort with the ocean, farmer's market, big wheel rides around the house and neighborhood, tractor rides, Discovery museum, day trip to Cambria, evening visits to Doc' ice cream parlor and playing golf with dad. Grace enjoyed the cool air, not sweating in her stroller and the constant attention from family. She did go through some transitions during her stay and I was so thankful we were there for support.  I am so appreciate of the energy my parents have to keep up with the kids and keep them enjoying their days. We have great memories of our time. Each summer brings new adventures for Davis as he grows.

At Avila Barn. He used to be afraid of feeding the animals. His new love is riding in the tractor to pick fruit.

I think Davis is throwing the lettuce in there but it looks like it bounced back here.

bracing for the nibble
Peaches
Strawberry picking at Rutiz Family Farms where my parent are lucky to get their produce.

These guys know how to lay some beautiful eggs.
Pops added a life vest to Davis' beach gear this summer. He has become so comfortable with the water, so this provides extra support for him to stand and play with out a firm hand hold in the water.

The beach tent was great this summer providing a cozy spot for Grace and whoever was on Grace duty.

Avila Beach

Davis jumped in the waves at Avila Beach and watched a seal swim just 10 feet from him.

At moonstone beach in Cambria. I think I should start a collection of Davis' cheeks exposed in nature.

Baby Grace: 5 months

You spent this month accomplishing multiple milestones which kept you nightwaking most days. And after sleeping through the night for a couple of months, it was a good reminder of all the daily changes you are going through.  Lucky for daddy, we were in California and lucky for mama, we were there with lots of help.  You started rolling over back to front which forced us to wean from the treasured miracle blanket. You then took the ‘touchdown’ or ‘I surrender’ sleep position. You also started teething, grew out of your Zantac dose and hit your 4 month sleep regression and growth spurt – sheesh.  You spent most of this month in the cool air, visiting the beach and exploring the parks with your brother.  You enjoyed extra cuddle time with Mimi and Pops, at all hours, who showered you with love. We took you to Moonstone Beach walked and climbed the rocks just like we did with your brother at the same age. Hearing the ocean was very relaxing as you closed your eyes and fell asleep in the Bjorn. You met mama’s godparents from the East Coast, your maternal great Aunt March from GA, great Aunt Bernell, great Uncle Randy and lots of Louisiana cousins too. You were held a lot and kept your easy going spirit. Mobility is upon us! You need lots of attention or we find you rolling on the hard floor across the room. You are putting everything in your mouth, a little from teething and sometimes just exploring. You still like your “bink” but are chewing on it mostly.  You sometimes grab a hold of both feet and give us a perfect Happy Baby pose. You continue to coo and sing and love to be in the mix with us all. And on the day you turned 5 months, you gained your first cousin, Noelani Lalere, a precious girl too! Close enough in age to be sisters indeed! You two are blessings to us all. We look forward to watching you grow together. How sweet it is to have you in our life sweet Grace.

Family Pics

We had pictures taken a month ago at our home. Gretchen of gretchenprints.com came early one Saturday morning. Her visit actually coincided with Andrew's parents. I just put the announcements in the mail, much later than anticipated, but they're done. Grace at 15 weeks and Davis at 3 years. Here's just a few.
