Medley wins Club Championship

Andrew is a junior member at a little gem of a golf course called Whisper Rock, respectfully referred by its members as "the Rock".  After regaining his amateur status, Andrew has gone all in when it comes to these weekend tournaments, especially the club championship. After placing second last year to a PGA tour player, he pulled it off this year. He beat another tour player to claim the title and yes, another trophy. This means major bragging rights for a year and his beautiful face on the front page of the club's annual. Davis and I are very proud!

Dear Member,

The 2011 Match Play Club Championship is in the books.

ANDREW MEDLEY and SCOTT HARRINGTON faced off in the finals of the overall Club Championship this afternoon on the Lower Course and put on quite a show.  Medley, coming off a 26-hole match against DAVE KELLY in the semi-finals, jumped out to an early 1-up lead with birdies on Nos. 1 and 2.  Harrington, who beat the defending champion TOM KALINOWSKI in the semis, answered with a two-putt birdie on No. 3 to square the match.  Both players birdied No. 4 and the match remained all square until Harrington bogeyed No. 7.  Medley took a 1-up lead into the back nine after both players birdied No. 8 and made par on No. 9.

Harrington squared the match on No. 10 after Medley bogeyed and took his only lead of the match with a birdie on No. 13, after both players made birdie on No. 11.  Medley answered with a birdie on No. 14 and squared the match, before taking the lead for good on No. 15 when Harrington made bogey.  Harrington tried to extend the match on No. 18, but his birdie putt slide by the hole and Medley made birdie for a 2-up victory!

Neither player was ever more than 1-up throughout the match until No. 18 and both players combined for 14 birdies, with each carding seven!

Fletcher Family Visit

Andrew and I were lucky to have been introduced to the Fletcher Family (Jim, Lynn, Kimberly and Spencer) at the McLachlin wedding December 2004. They have given us a wonderful friendship through the last few years including many rounds of golf for the guys. A few years ago, Spencer joined our AZ family and now is member of ASU's golf team. We had a great visit with them this weekend. Kimberly and   Kate, Spencer's girlfriend, also provided some babysitting time so Andrew and I could pick out floors for the new house. Davis showed off his passion for the iphone and his dancing skills. Thank you girls.

Hanging at 'my crib'

I've tried to make Davis feel very comfortable in his room. With traveling, we often have sleep disturbance and getting back on track takes some effort. The pediatrician encouraged me to allow Davis to play in his room/ crib as much as possible. It truly works. Here are some photos of the many expressions of Davis hanging in his crib.

Double Birthday Wishes

Today, February 19, has always been a special day for my family. It is the shared birthday of both my mom, Nell, and Grandma Pat. I have always thought of how special it must have been for my grandmother to welcome her second daughter on her birthday. Both are in California today and celebrating together. We wish we were there. Happy Birthday Mimi and Grandma Pat! We love you.

New Orleans

In preparation for Davis inaugural trip to New Orleans, my birthplace, I read Goodnight Nola to him for weeks. I quickly memorized this and began reciting this before naps and bedtime. Needless to say, I think he was ready. We had a wonderful visit with Tim and Jean (Gran and Granmother). We celebrated Christmas in February with the Medleys and I earned some continuing education credit at a conference. Going back home is always special for us. We tried to soak it all in, experiencing it in new way with Baby Davis. He had such a time with his grandparents who babysat full time while I was in class. His favorite activity was watching the streetcar and traffic on Lee Circle and showing off how mobile he really is. He was able to eat some rice at Mandina's, visit Uncle Randy at Cafe Du Monde and godmother Laurel, and listen to street music in the French Quarter. We also had some fun introducing him to some family and friends although we regret our short visit (and sleepless nights) as we did not get to visit with all we would have liked to. I guess we'll be due back very soon.

Valentines Day in a New Way

In respect to Valentines Day, I now have a new perspective on life and love and my two great loves - Andrew and Davis.  I love my alone time with Davis but take great pleasure in seeing these two together in the evenings. We anxiously await Andrew to come home. It's not always before bedtime. Davis quickly flashes a big smile, now showing off his new teeth. They sometimes play, wrestle, etc. Nothing like a little overstimulation before bedtime. Andrew typically has to change before giving Davis a bath so he doesn't completely ruin his clothes.  Here are a few sweet moments of evenings with Dad.

How our Medley became three

Although Andrew and I met at the LSU-Ole Miss game in November 2000, we did not start dating until New Years 2004.  I was in graduate school in Florida and he was playing golf professionally in Arizona. In 2005, we were engaged while horseback riding in the Sonoran Mountains in North Scottsdale,

and married a year later at Pebble Beach, where we had rung in the New Year 2004.
We had great adventures in our first years of marriage, traveling the country and abroad, making great friends in Scottsdale, and making the transition from life in the South to life out West.  Our biggest adventure proved to be our greatest blessing. It arrived in the form of Davis Benjamin born May 24, 2010.

Why a Blog?

I'm not a facebooker, a myspacer and I've never tweeted, but one of my resolutions is to start AND maintain a blog. As a new mom, I have found great pleasure in the sweet moments of everyday life. Davis will be my muse although I hope this serves as a scrapbook for our family too. I don't believe I'll have the time to run to a scrapbook store for a while. With our immediate family in 7 different states and one in China, I hope it will allow us to keep in touch and share our memories too. Also, I won't be overloading their inboxes with large video files or photo blasts on a daily basis. (ok, maybe just the grandmothers'.) So, you can check this blog as you may. I'll keep posting and hopefully our medley of adventures in parenthood, keeping house and general life in the desert will keep you entertained.
